Mark Burnell

Mark qualified as a veterinary surgeon in 1985 from the Royal Veterinary College and went directly in to dairy cow practice in Somerset, UK working under the guidance of the well respected ‘lameness vet’ Don Collick. In 1991 he gained the Dutch Foot Trimming Diploma after spending a week at the Dairy Training Centre, Oenkerk (Netherlands) with Peter Kloosterman. In 1993 he was awarded the Certificate in Cattle Health and Production and in 2004 the Diploma in Bovine Reproduction from the University of Liverpool and in 2010 won the Farmers Weekly Livestock Advisor of the Year award. In 20013 he was a student at the Dairyland institute in Wisconsin. He is a DairyCo mobility mentor and has provided consultancy services both in the UK and abroad, including Japan, Hungary, Ireland and Russia.

Mark has been teaching foot trimming to farmers for over 25 years and has been a strong advocate for the use of properly trained technicians to assist farmers in dealing with lameness. He is currently a Director in a large farm animal veterinary practice in the South West of England and has helped develop an ever growing team of ‘Vet Techs’.
